Mapping and Improving Cycling and Hiking Trails in the Municipality of Kičevo
Kičevo on Two Wheels and on Foot – Safe Trails, Healthy Youth and Sustainable Tourism!
Green Initiative Sports and Recreation Local Tourism
To: The Municipality of Kičevo and the Relevant Institutions Responsible for Local Development, Environmental Protection, and Tourism
We, the young people of the Municipality of Kičevo, call for a comprehensive initiative to map, mark, improve, and maintain cycling and hiking trails throughout the municipality.
Kičevo and its surrounding areas offer natural landscapes with significant potential for hiking, cycling, outdoor recreation, and local tourism. However, to make these opportunities accessible to the wider public, systematic trail mapping, clear signage, information about trail length and difficulty, and appropriate safety measures are needed.
Through this initiative, we want to promote healthier lifestyles, greater environmental awareness, and the active involvement of young people in the development of their community.
Therefore, we call on the Municipality of Kičevo to:
- Map and register existing cycling and hiking trails, assessing their condition, accessibility, and development potential.
- Develop a public digital map providing information about routes, distances, estimated travel times, difficulty levels, starting points, and important natural and cultural sites.
- Install clear trail signs and directional markers along priority routes, including information on safe movement and environmental protection.
- Improve and maintain priority trails, including waste removal and the development of rest areas where feasible.
- Involve young people, cycling and hiking clubs, local associations, and residents in identifying, mapping, maintaining, and promoting the trails.
- Promote the trails through digital platforms, social media, and tourism information materials to attract visitors and support local businesses.
- Establish a mechanism for regularly updating the digital map and reporting damaged signs, unsafe sections, and other trail-related problems.
What will Kičevo gain?
- More opportunities for sports, recreation, and spending time in nature.
- Greater youth participation in local environmental initiatives.
- Better promotion of the municipality’s natural and cultural heritage.
- New opportunities for active and rural tourism and support for local entrepreneurship.
- Increased awareness of nature conservation and responsible use of public spaces.
We believe that well-maintained and accessible trails are an investment in young people’s health, quality of life, and the future development of Kičevo.
Support this petition! Let’s show that we want more opportunities for outdoor activities, recreation, and discovering the natural beauty of our municipality. Let’s make our trails visible, accessible, and safe for everyone!
